A Brief history of Ireland :
600

The Great Famine, the Irish Potato Famine or The Great Famine is the name given to a major famine in Ireland between               1845 and 1852 it was a dark period of irland history because there was between 500 000 and 1 million deaths. This disaster was largely the result fifty years of disastrous interactions between British imperial economic policy, inappropriate farming methods and the appearance of downy mildew on the island, a parasite that almost completely destroys local potato crops, the staple food of Irish peasantry.
The great famine in Ireland started because of virus that affected potatoes the harvest of the potatoes was struck by the mildew, making it soft and inedible. The poor of Ireland depended on the potato for their survival, for more than three million people, it was the only food. When the downy mildew spoiled almost half of the crop in 1845, these people spent the winter

in starvation, which was not new in their lives. But as long as it is possible for the spread of the diseaseThe consequencies of the famine that is irish people became poor because they have no money to pay the food or the medicine and as America is protestant they only helped the protesrtant and didn't give anything to the catholics. So the famine increased even more. Some people started to immigrate to the USA. , this famine lead to the death of 1 million people. But it was difficult because they could'nt afford the boats they took really cheap ones, and only 80 made it to the US.Once there the Irish were badly considered (Unskilled, ignorant)and didn't really get a better life.Life in Ireland didn't really improve for catholics because food kept increasing and the wages didn't.Their conditions discreasing lead to the Easter rising in 1916.To conclude the great famine marked the XIXth century by its considerable human losses and material (crops) including the potato destroyed by a virus (mildew) which is the main product of survival as explained previously, thus promoting the emigration towards new continents especially towards the United States which in conclusion had been ineffective because too much different for most in the eyes of Americans to integrate really so not only tragic human circumstances took place but the Great Famine also saw the the emergence of a brutal conflict through politics, the stakes of which were considerable, and American Farmers at the religious level, hampering the survival of Catholics and helping the Irish Protestants. The persistence of the latter will always mark the history of The famine still had an impact until 1916.
